Sullivan County Legislature meeting.

ImageToday, at least seven members of MoveOn.org Sullivan (NY) presented a petition to the Sullivan county legislature in Monticello NY, for a ‘resolution’ to Overturn the ‘Citizens United’ Supreme court decision. Kathie Aberman introduced our Petition, describing the MoveOn.org , Public Citizen’s movement since last January to overturn this decision and get money out of politics, and, as our draft resolution said,

1) A corporation is not a person and can be regulated

2) Money is not speech and can be regulated, and

Ending with, “The judiciary shall not construe the spending of money to influence elections to be speech under the First Amendment.”

The proposed ‘draft’ resolution was presented by; Kathie Aberman, Robert Dorn, Padma Dyvine, Marshall Rubin, Chet Carlin, Priscilla Bassett, Thomas Brown, Marilyn Valant, Mary Ann Burke, Mary Ellen Boyd, Catherine Rivas, Harris Alic, James Clark, Kristina Williams and several hundred petitioners, residents of Sullivan County.

Some members were unable to be present and others read their statements supporting this.

Several of us were interviewed and photographed by local media, and a special group portrait was taken with Cora Edwards, one of the 9 Legislators present.
